{allcanada} ORFORD, WILLIAMS SKATE TO SIXTH IN ICE DANCE AT WORLD JUNIORS

As Seen On TV

MINSK, Belarus -- Canada's Nicole Orford and Thomas Williams finished sixth in ice dancing at the world junior figure skating championships Friday.

Skating to music from the soundtrack to "Gone with the Wind," Orford, from Burnaby, B.C., and Williams, from Okotoks, Alta., scored a personal-best 134.61 points.

"It was definitely our best performance this season," said Williams. "But we were hoping for a top-five finish. There was more pressure this year because we had established ourselves at the junior level."

Victoria Sinitsina and Ruslan Zhigganshin led Russia to a 1-2 finish. Alexandra Stepanova and Ivan Bukin won the silver while Americans Alexandra Aldridge and Daniel Eaton claimed the bronze.

Canadian junior champions Andreanne Poulin of l'Ile-Bizard, Que., and Marc-Andre Servant of Vaudreuil, Que., were 20th.

Kaetlyn Osmond of Marystown, N.L., is ninth after the women's singles short program.

"Except for an over-rotation on the Lutz it was a clean program," Osmond said. "I'm really looking forward to (Saturday's) free skate."

Julia Lipnitskaia of Russia is the leader, Gracie Gold of the U.S. is second and Adelina Sotnikova of Russia is third.
