TORONTO -- The Ontario Hockey League suspended Alex Carnevale of the Belleville Bulls eight games Friday for a blindside hit he delivered in a game last month.
Carnevale received a five-minute major and game misconduct for checking a London Knights player during a Feb. 25 contest. The OHL reviewed the incident and decided an additional penalty was warranted.
A video replay provided by the league shows the Knights' player skating up the ice and poised to received a pass just inside the centre-ice line. A split second after the London forward, who had his head down, received the puck, Carnevale skated in and lowered his left shoulder into his opponent with a blow that sent the player to the ice and his helmet flying off.
Although the London player wasn't injured, the OHL felt he was still a "unsuspecting player" on the play and there was contact made to his head.
