The makers of a game which pokes fun at Justin Bieber have filed a lawsuit against the star in a bid to prove they are within their rights to parody a celebrity.

The Baby hitmaker's attorneys recently sent a cease-and-desist letter to bosses at games company RC3, alleging their Joustin' Beaver cell phone application, which features a Bieber-styled beaver, infringes the singer's trademarks.

They threatened to sue unless the game is removed from sale on the iTunes website.

RC3 executives refused and they have now hit back by filing a preemptive lawsuit against Bieber, according to TMZ.com, asking a court to declare they are not breaking the law by mocking the teenage star.

They claim their right to "parody" famous faces is protected under the U.S. constitution.
