{allcanada} Argos to raid other teams for staff

At high noon, in a swanky downtown Toronto hotel on Thursday, Scott Milanovich will be unveiled as the new head coach of the Argonauts.

That's old news. What is not: The coaching staff he hopes to have in tow.

Marcus Brady is returning to the franchise, as the expected fallout from the Milanovich hire will raid assistant coaches from other organizations.

Brady will be the Argos offensive coordinator next season, sportsnet.ca has learned. The 32-year-old former CFL quarterback has spent the past three seasons, since retiring from the game, as the receivers' coach of the Montreal Alouettes under Milanovich, who was the offensive coordinator for Mark Trestman.

In fact, the entire Alouettes staff on the offensive side of the football is expected to be gone. Jonathan Himebauch, until now the offensive line coach in Montreal, will likely end up being the running back coach in Toronto, while present Argos offensive line coach Stephen McAdoo is believed to remain in the same role.

Should Mike O'Shea not get an offer to be head coach in Saskatchewan or Hamilton, the man who has become one of the league's top, young assistants will retain his role as the Argos special teams coordinator, while taking care of the linebackers. Orlondo Steinauer, who began 2011 as Toronto's secondary coach, then got elevated to defensive coordinator when Chip Garber was fired, is touted to return to mentoring the Argonaut defensive backfield.

If O'Shea, who has already interviewed for the top job in Saskatchewan, is hired as a head coach elsewhere, he's pegged Steinauer as his defensive coordinator.

Brady broke into the league as a player with Toronto, backing up Damon Allen in 2002 and 2003. He went on to Hamilton for two seasons beginning in 2004, before playing the final three seasons of his career in Montreal, retiring after the 2008 campaign to begin his coaching career.

While Trestman received many of the accolades to the career renaissance of Anthony Calvillo, it is widely believed that Milanovich and Brady helped with the heavy lifting in the ongoing development of the Alouettes offence. A pair of Montreal's receivers have become two of the best in the league: Jamel Richardson was arguably the CFL's top player; S.J. Green went from the practice roster early in 2010 to leading the team in touchdowns that year and a top-six target this season. The pair combined for just shy of 3,000 yards receiving and 15 touchdowns in 2011.

Brady's addition as offensive coordinator comes two days after Calgary Stampeders defensive coordinator Chris Jones was linked to joining Milanovich's staff in a national report. Jones and Milanovich worked together in Montreal in 2007 and have remained quite close.

While the Argos issued peculiar statements Wednesday, denying permission requests were made to the Stamps for Jones's services after John Hufnagel sniped at the Toronto organization to the media, there is no question that the one-time Alouette defensive boss, who won a Grey Cup in Calgary in 2008 in the same role, will wear double blue in 2012.
