MONTREAL -- The Montreal Impact have signed former Inter Milan defender Nelson Rivas as their first designated player.
The club is expected to announce the move at a news conference today, according to RDS and other reports.
The 28-year-old Colombian joined Inter from River Plate in 2007 and made 28 appearances for the Serie A side, helping the club to two Italian league titles.
Montreal is set to join Major League Soccer in 2012, becoming the third Canadian team in the league after Toronto FC and the Vancouver Whitecaps.
