When I said "Lesser Quality", one of the things that entailed is the lack of gain control.  Apparently SACD players natively adjust gain upwards (up to +6db) as needed.  The discs themselves vary.  I haven't personally noticed any peaks less than -3db.  So I personally have set the foobar plugin to +3db gain.  Obviously this will allow discs to still vary a db or two from one to the next, but whooptee-do.  That said, converters are trying to mimic the complete SACD experience by providing Flacs that are adjusted (by the highest peak on the album) to just shy of 0db.
