Edmonton Oilers head coach Tom Renney announced on Tuesday that forward Sam Gagner will be out week-to-week with a sprained ankle.
Gagner sustained the injury in the second period on Saturday against Calgary when he collided with Brendan Mikkelson and fell into the boards.
Gagner tried to continue in the game but was unable to do so.
According to the Edmonton Journal, Gagner left Rexall Place on Monday in a walking boot to protect the ankle.
Edmonton opens its season on Sunday, Oct. 9 when they host the Pittsburgh Penguins.
