The BC Lions announce that advanced ticket sales for the first event in the newly renovated BC Place have passed the 40,000 mark.
The Lions will open their new venue this Friday with a crucial West Division matchup versus the Edmonton Eskimos.
"Response from Lions fans has been tremendous and Friday is going to be our largest regular season crowd in the past 20 years," said Lions president and CEO, Dennis Skulsky.
The Lions last topped the 40,000 mark in 1994 when 40,556 fans passed through the gates at BC Place to see the Lions take on the Calgary Stampeders. The club would go on to claim its third Grey cup championship on home turf later that year.
"This is a huge game for the team with significant playoff implications and I'm confident our fans will create a true home field advantage," added Skulsky. "Everyone in attendance at Friday's game will receive an orange pom-pom and we encourage everyone to wear orange to the game."
