NEW YORK -- Former Toronto Rock goalie Bob Watson has been voted into the National Lacrosse League Hall of Fame.
The six-time league champion is the sole inductee in 2011, the league announced Monday.
Watson, who played 15 years in the NLL, was selected on 86 per cent of the ballots cast by league governors, current Hall of Fame members and the media. Nominees need at least 75 per cent for consideration.
Watson retired following the 2011 season, ending his career by winning championship game MVP honours as Toronto defeated Washington 8-7 in the final.
He is the only goaltender in league history to win six championships and was also named the league's top goalie twice (2001 and 2008).
Watson posted a 16-4 career playoff record and is one of only a few goaltenders with more than 100 career wins.
"It's a no brainer," Rock owner and president Jamie Dawick said in a release. "In my opinion, he is the best goalie to ever play the game. He didn't play for individual awards and I know he cherishes those six championship rings above everything else. There is no one more deserving."
