If the Edmonton Eskimos want to keep their positive momentum going through the first half of the season, they'll have to do it without Greg Peach.
Reports indicate the Eskimos defensive lineman will require surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee and is out 4-6 weeks.
Last week's Defensive Player of the Week suffered the injury in Saturday's big win over the Calgary Stampeders at McMahon Stadium, improving the Eskimos record to 4-0.
"During that second sack, I just felt it a little bit when I tackled (Henry) Burris," Peach told the Edmonton Sun. "I got up and it just didn't feel right. I've never hurt my knee before, so I didn't know what a knee injury feels like. I just hobbled off the field and knew that I couldn't play the rest of the game."
Peach is not looking forward to being out of the lineup and is determined to return earlier than the projected timeline.
"It's very frustrating, but that's the nature of this game," Peach told the Sun. "Crying about it, is not going to do anything for me. I'm just going to stay positive and do the best I can to recover and rehab.
"I just don't like being out, I've done too much of it, I had to do it last year and I don't want to do it again."
The Eskimos host the Toronto Argonauts on Friday (TSN, 9:30pm et/6:30pm pt) and hope to have Joe Sykes back in the lineup to fill the void left by Peach's absence. Sykes missed last week's game with an ankle injury but hopes to practice on Wednesday.
