The non-existent one showed up at Saturday's Fringe session at Comic-Con.
Joshua Jackson, who plays Peter Bishop, made a surprise appearance after other cast members and producers were introduced, causing a stir in the appreciative crowd.
The third-season finale of Fringe revealed that Peter (Joshua Jackson), a central character, never existed.
Before Jackson appeared dressed as one of the show's Observers, producers played up the situation with a humorous video of fake auditions to fill his role, featuring such notables as Michael Emerson, Zachary Quinto, Jorge Garcia, Jeff Probst and Jackson himself, dressed as an Observer.
So, what is the status of Peter Bishop? "There's no Peter. Peter doesn't exist," executive producer Jeff Pinkner said. "Josh calls every day and says, 'What am I doing this year?'"
Although no answer was given regarding Jackson's future, the actor's appearance, demeanor and comments made it seem like he would be back.
"However (Peter) gets folded back into the season, he will be different than he was before," Jackson said.
Producers were mum regarding other questions, too, saying they didn't want to spoil the viewing experience.
"All will be answered. We promise," executive producer J.H. Wyman said.
