An old, trusted work colleague leaves. A new, arrogant work colleague enters.
That's the situation facing Detective William Murdoch, played by Yannick Bisson, as the fourth season of the Canadian series Murdoch Mysteries debuts Tuesday, June 7 on Citytv.
The series is set in Toronto in the 1890s, and Det. Murdoch is having trouble adjusting to life without pathologist Dr. Julia Ogden (Helene Joy). Dr. Ogden has departed for greener pastures in Buffalo (insert your own joke here).
Dr. Ogden's replacement is Dr. Llewellyn Francis (Paul Rhys), a fresh import from England who has a cocky disdain for the "colonies."
The fourth-season premiere sees a frustrated Murdoch "working around" Dr. Francis.
This leads Murdoch to seek out his predecessor at Station 4, Detective Malcolm Lamb, played by guest star Victor Garber.
A fifth season of Murdoch Mysteries will be filmed in Toronto this summer.
