Donald Sutherland has been cast in the film adaptation of Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games, taking on the role of the ominous President Snow, Lionsgate announced Tuesday.

In the book series, Snow -- who's ruled Games' post-U.S. setting of Panem for 25 years at the story starts — is described as looking like a snake and smelling of blood and roses.

Sutherland's casting is the latest in a line of high-profile participation in Gary Ross' film. Last week, it was announced that Lenny Kravitz will play the beloved stylist Cinna. Stanley Tucci, Elizabeth Banks, Wes Bentley, Woody Harrelson and Paula Malcomson will be among the adult actors filling out the story centered on kids from 12 to 18 fighting to the death to entertain a dystopian nation.

In other Hunger Games news, Lionsgate tweeted Friday regarding apparent script changes. "The current draft of The Hunger Games script was not written by Billy Ray [as originally announced]. It is a collaboration between Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins," said the studio's official Twitter.

The Hunger Games is scheduled to hit theaters March 23, 2012.
