Brad Ross scored two goals and added an assist before making an early exit as the Portland Winterhawks blanked the Vancouver Giants 5-0 in Western Hockey League action Saturday night.

Ross, an 18-year-old Lethbridge, Alta., native, produced all of his points while playing only two periods. He was ejected in the final minute of the second following a fight with Vancouver captain James Henry, who was also tossed out.

Derrick Pouliot, Nino Niederreiter and Ryan Johansen also scored for the Western Conference-leading Winterhawks (45-17-3) as they posted their third-straight win. Portland has won all three meetings with Vancouver this season with one game remaining.

Vancouver was unable to produce much offensively after losing top scorer Brendan Gallagher in the game's first minute. Giants coach Don Hay told reporters Gallagher, the WHL's latest player of the week, suffered a head injury and would be evaluated further on Sunday.

Gallagher was hammered into the corner boards by Portland winger Brendan Leipsic, who left his feet. No penalty was called.

Gallagher lay on the ice while play briefly resumed and then got up groggily on one knee but could not stand up and had to be helped to his feet by a trainer and teammate Jordan Martinook, who came off the bench to assist.
