{allcanada} Recruiting the Bandit

Avon Canada

Adriano Belli plans to decide soon his future, and if Angelo Mosca has anything to do with it, the result might be playing for the Hamilton Tiger-Cats this year.

Mosca called Belli Saturday when he heard the defensive lineman was still available and tried to persuade him to sign with the Ticats. In fact, he suggested Belli ask the Tiger-Cats for the number 68 he wore so famously for Hamilton. The number has never been retired.

Speaking to sportsnet.ca, Belli said he has interest from both the Argos and Ticats. The defensive lineman has asked them to table offers this week and he will make a decision. He did not say which way he plans to decide.

Mosca, a goodwill ambassador for the Ticats, likes Belli's game and personality, saying it reminds him of himself when played defensive tackle for the Ticats.

"I like the kid, I know what he stands for, I think he's a Tiger-Cat," Mosca said. "He plays like me and I like our style. I hope (the Tiger-Cats sign him). I think he can be a hell of an addition to this football team. He's got a couple of good years left. Let's use two or three good years out of him and promote him as the new Angelo Mosca.

"I was thinking of the promotion aspect because he's a lot like me. He does things off the cuff and I like his style. I like him, he's a nice guy.

"Give him my number. Numbers don't matter to me. If we could get a guy like Belli and sell some tickets around it, good luck. My heart still lies with these Tiger-Cats. They were pretty good to me and I was an a-hole in the beginning and (general manager) Jim Trimble brought me back. I was like a Belli."

Belli played for the Ticats from 2004-2006 and has been with the Argos since 2007. He is arguably their highest-profile player.

Mosca, however, was clearly different from Belli in one aspect: he never kissed a player, reporter, coach or anyone other than a woman for that matter. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Belli has made a career out of it, along with playing football.

Mosca said if Belli signs with the team, he will gladly allow Belli to kiss him.

"He's kissed me before…on the cheek," Mosca confided. "I wish him good luck. He's a nice kid."
