Defensive lineman Garrett McIntyre appears to be on the verge of signing with the NFL's New York Jets.

According to the Hamilton Spectator, McIntyre has not put pen to paper yet but the deal is imminent.

"I haven't signed officially yet, but the contract is in the mail," McIntyre told the Spectator.

Last season, McIntyre picked up eight sacks and recorded 32 tackles.

He is expected to play outside linebacker in Rex Ryan's 3-4 defence.

"It's kind of a defensive end that stands up and can drop back into pass coverage," McIntyre told the newspaper.

The California native has nothing but good things to say about his tenure in Hamilton but was up front about why he has decided to sign in the NFL.

"I love the Tiger-Cats, it was great there, but it's every kid's dream to play in the NFL," McIntyre told the Spectator. "The reason I did sign with them is that they gave me some money up front and, when a team invests in you, you know they're serious. They say that I'll make the practice roster for sure and maybe challenge for a sport on the active roster."

However, with the threat of a lock-out in the NFL, McIntyre could be left without a team next season.
