ZURICH, Switzerland -- World Cup winner Spain led the monthly FIFA rankings and new Asian champion Japan leaped into the top 20 on Wednesday.
African champion Egypt plummeted from the top 10, down to No. 33, because the value of its January 2010 title dropped more than one year on.
Spain heads an unchanged top nine, followed by the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil and Argentina. Greece rose one place to No. 10.
Japan rose 12 spots to No. 17 and heads Asian confederation teams after its continental championship win last weekend.
The United States stays at No. 18 to lead CONCACAF teams and Canada moved up four spots to No. 80.
Oceania's best was New Zealand at No. 64.
The Asian Cup offered valuable ranking points to climb the standings.
Beaten finalist Australia rose five to No. 21, and semifinalists South Korea (up seven to No. 32) and Uzbekistan (up 31 to No. 77) also moved upward.
Host country Qatar, which also will stage the 2022 World Cup, rose 15 to No. 90 after reaching the quarter-finals.
Other climbers were Iran (No. 44, up 21), Jordan (No. 84, up 23), and Iraq (No. 88, up 10).
CONCACAF teams also rose using competitive qualifying matches for the Gold Cup being staged in the U.S. in June.
Honduras, which played at the 2010 World Cup, climbed 17 to No. 39, Costa Rica rose 21 to No. 48 and El Salvador was now No. 98, up eight places.
Other African teams falling included World Cup qualifiers Nigeria (down eight to No. 40) and Algeria (down 19 to No. 55).
