The truck that will handle the ice-making duties for the Heritage Classic is officially on the road to Calgary.

The truck, which checks in at 53 feet long and just over eight feet wide, according to Senior Vice President of Hockey Operations
Kris King, left Toronto on Tuesday for its eight-day trip to Calgary, where it will make the ice for the Feb. 20 meeting between the Flames and the Montreal Canadiens at McMahon Stadium, home of the CFL's Calgary Stampeders.

"It's the largest mobile ice plant in the world," King said as the truck headed west. "It contains all the equipment needed to build an ice rink. Three thousand gallons of glycol will run through the unit. Twenty thousand gallons of water are used to make the ice, and you couldn't do it without this big, beautiful machine.

"There's not another one like it in the world."

The truck is scheduled to make stops in Winnipeg (Feb. 5), Regina (Feb. 6), Saskatoon (Feb. 7) and Edmonton (Feb. 8) before arriving in Calgary on Feb. 9.

The Heritage Classic will be the NHL's first regular-season game contested outdoors in Canada since the
Edmonton Oilers hosted the Canadiens in the first Heritage Classic at Commonwealth Stadium on Nov. 22, 2003.
