{allcanada} FOUR RINKS CLAIM QUARTER-FINAL BERTHS AT CANADIAN OPEN

OSHAWA, Ont. -- Glenn Howard, Mike McEwen, Jeff Stoughton and Pat Simmons can all rest easy at the BDO Canadian Open curling event.

The four rinks headed into the final draw of the round robin Friday night having all cemented quarter-finals berths. Howard, of Coldwater, Ont., McEwen and Stoughton, both of Winnipeg, all had 4-0 records while Simmons, of Regina, was at 4-1.

However, Olympic champion Kevin Martin of Edmonton went into the final draw with a 2-2 record after losing 6-5 to Peter Corner of Brampton, Ont., (1-3) on Friday morning. What's more, Martin's final round-robin contest was against Stoughton's undefeated rink.
