MONTREAL (AP)—The Edmonton Oilers finally got reacquainted with a winning streak.

Dustin Penner(notes) scored at 2:28 of overtime, Ales Hemsky(notes) had a goal and two assists and Edmonton won consecutive games for the first time since the beginning of the season, rallying for a 4-3 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Wednesday night.

Penner stripped a bouncing puck off Montreal's Michael Cammalleri(notes) in the neutral zone, drove in on a breakaway and beat Carey Price(notes) with a backhander between the pads.

Sam Gagner(notes) tied it at 3 with a short-handed goal with 6:43 left in the third for Edmonton's second goal in 3:18.

"I feel like we just kept pressuring and we got a few breaks there and we were able to capitalize, so it was definitely a good feeling," Gagner said.

Hemsky returned to the Oilers' lineup after missing three games because of a groin injury. He drew Edmonton to 3-2 with his seventh goal at 10:02 of the third and got his second assist of the game on Gagner's goal after setting up Kurtis Foster's(notes) power-play tally late in the first.

"It was a great effort from everybody," Hemsky said. "We just battled hard in the end."

Devan Dubnyk(notes) made 36 saves.

"Our team delivered as you hoped they would in terms of their effort and making it entertaining, all those things," Oilers coach Tom Renney said, "but the bottom line is that we really gutted it out here when we could have maybe just gone south and said, `You know, that's good enough. We're OK.' These guys clearly understand that that's not good enough any more and that's the beauty of a team growing up before your eyes."

Roman Hamrlik(notes) and Mathieu Darche(notes) each had a goal and an assist. Michael Cammelleri also had two points for Montreal, which fell to 1-2 in overtime this season.

The Canadiens, who haven't been involved in a shootout this season, played beyond the third period for the first time in 17 games since a 3-2 overtime win over Phoenix on Oct. 25.

Price made 28 saves and Scott Gomez(notes) scored one of the Canadiens' two power-play goals in the game 13:05 in.

"We tried to make plays when there were no plays instead of being 200 feet down the ice," Darche said. "It might not be the prettiest play but at least it's away from your net."

Hamrlik reached 600 points with a goal and an assist in the second.

Hamrlik, who played his 1,255th regular-season game, moved within a point of his milestone with an assist as Darche restored Montreal's one-goal lead at 2-1 with his fourth goal on a power play 8:01 into the second.

Hamrlik made it 3-1 when he drove in to put away a rebound off Dubnyk's right pad stop at 10:02.

Price, selected the NHL's second star for November earlier in the day, made a pair of saves on Taylor Hall(notes) late in the second. Price stopped the 19-year-old left wing's initial shot and stuck out his glove to deny the 2010 first overall draft pick's rebound opportunity to protect Montreal's two-goal margin.

Gomez got credit for his third goal when Oilers defenseman Ryan Whitney(notes) deflected his centering pass to Mathieu Darche past Dubnyk.

Foster drew Edmonton even at 1 at 17:45 with a slap shot past Price from the left point.

NOTES: Oilers president Patrick LaForge said a meeting of the team's executives with Quebec City mayor Regis Labeaume earlier in the day was about comparing funding efforts to get new arenas built in both cities and not about relocating the franchise. "I can categorically say that we're not looking to move the team right now," LaForge said. … Fresh from a downtown victory parade earlier in the day, the Canadian Football League's Montreal Alouettes got a standing ovation prior to the game as they brought the Grey Cup to the Bell Centre for a second year in a row. The Alouettes defended their CFL title Sunday with a 21-18 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders in Edmonton. … Oilers coach Tom Renney used his timeout following Hamrlik's goal. Canadiens coach Jacques Martin used his during a stop in play 6:25 into the third. … Montreal D Jaroslav Spacek(notes) played his 800th regular-season game.
