MEDICINE HAT, Alta. -- Krista McCarville remained undefeated at the Canada Cup of Curling on Wednesday with an 8-7 win over Olympic silver medallist Cheryl Bernard.
Bernard carried a 7-5 lead into the 10th end and seemed poised for a victory. But McCarville came back with three in the final end for the narrow victory and a 2-0 record.
Bernard fell to 1-1.
In other results, Jennifer Jones also improved to 2-0 with a 10-3 win over Shelley Nichols. Jones opened with three points and never looked back as the two rinks shook hands after eight ends. Nichols fell to 0-2.
Shannon Kleibrink scored two in the decisive ninth end in an 8-4 win over Chelsea Carey. Kleibrink is 2-0 while Carey fell to 0-2.
Stefanie Lawton scored four in the third and eighth ends in a 13-3 rout of Kelly Scott. Lawton is also 2-0 while Scott is 0-2.
And Amber Holland scored one in the 10th end to beat Heather Nedohin 7-6. Holland improved to 1-1 while Nedohin fell to 0-2.
Earlier, Olympic champion Kevin Martin cruised to an 8-2 win over Serge Reid in his opening game.
Martin scored four times in the sixth end of the Draw 2 match, prompting Reid to shake hands.
Martin is tied atop the Section A standings with Randy Ferbey and Mike McEwen.
Ferbey beat Rob Fowler 7-5, while McEwen scored twice in the eighth end and once in the ninth for a 6-3 win over Mat Camm.
Glenn Howard, an 8-5 winner over Jeff Stoughton, tops Section B with Kevin Koe, who beat Brent Bawel 8-6.
