SAGINAW, Mich. - Garret Ross scored three goals to lead the Saginaw Spirit over the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 8-4 in an offensive battle Wednesday.
The two teams combined for six goals in the second period with Saginaw (19-5-4) scoring four times in a 4:01 span.
Ross's hat trick marked the third consecutive game that a Spirit player scored three goals, with Brandon Saad doing the honours against the Peterborough Petes and Josh Shalla scoring a team-record four goals the following night against the Windsor Spitfires.
Shalla had two goals and an assist for the Spirit on Wednesday, while Jordan Szwarz scored twice, and Brandon Saad had a goal and an assist.
Ryan O'Connor had three assists, while Anthony Camara and Mathew Sisca added a pair of assists each. Daniel Catenacci had a goal and two assists for the Greyhounds (10-13-4), while Jake Carrick had a goal and an assist and Trevor Morbeck and Chad Thibodeau rounded with a goal apiece.
Saginaw was 2-for-5 on the power play, outshooting Sault Ste. Marie, 40-24. The Greyhounds were 0-for-2 with the man advantage. Mavric Parks stopped 20-of-24 shots for the Spirit.
Greyhounds goaltender Matt Murray was busy with 32 saves.

Houser stellar with 44 saves as Knights edge Attack 2-1
OWEN SOUND, Ont. - Michael Houser made 44 saves as the London Knights edged the Owen Sound Attack 2-1 in Ontario Hockey League action Wednesday. Seth Griffith and Jared Knight scored for the Knights (13-10-3). Garrett Wilson scored his 23rd goal and Jordan Binnington made 28 saves for the Attack (17-7-2).
