OTTAWA -- Canada's track and field community is getting a league of its own.
The National Track League (NTL) will be a points-based Grand Prix style series of meets modelled after the International Association of Athletic Federation's (IAAF) Diamond League.
"This series of international competitions from coast to coast will create the stage to lift Canada's finest athletes to the Olympic level," said Doug Clement, co-founder of the Harry Jerome International Track Classic.
The Edmonton International Track Classic will kick off the inaugural NTL series on June 29.
Four other events are also on the series schedule.
They include the Harry Jerome in Burnaby, B.C. (July 1), the Victoria International Track Classic (July 3), the Aileen Meagher International Track Classic in Halifax (July 10) and a yet-to-be-named meet (July 13) in Toronto.
