SHEFFIELD -- Canada won a pair of bronze medals at a junior Grand Prix figure skating meet Saturday.
Liam Firus of North Vancouver, B.C., finished third in men's singles while Nicole Orford of Burnaby, B.C., and Thomas Williams of Okotoks, Alta., were third in ice dancing.
American Joshua Farris won gold in the singles with 187.74 points. Zhan Bush of Russia was second with 172.80 and Firus took third with 166.38.
Firus was only a half-point out of first entering the long program.
"I'm really excited about winning the medal but I would have liked a more consistent final," Firus said. "A lot of my jumps were messy but I was able to keep focused and that's what kept me in the medals."
It was a 1-2 Russian finish in ice dancing as Ksenia Monko and Kirill Khaliavin took the gold for their fifth career Junior Grand Prix win. Victoria Sinitsina and Ruslan Zhiganshin won silver.
Orford felt the judges were impressed with her team's skating skills and speed.
"I don't think we can say we're surprised," she said. "We have worked really hard for this. It felt so great at the end of the program when we knew we had given every ounce of energy we had."
Abby Carswell of Toronto and Andrew Doleman of Dundas, Ont., were eighth.
Canada ended the competition with three bronze medals. Natasha Purich of Sherwood Park, Alta., and Raymond Schultz of Toronto were third in pairs on Friday.
