The Edmonton Oil Kings pounded the Regina Pats in every sense of the word Friday night.

Cameron Abney scored twice and added an assist to help the Edmonton Oil Kings handle the Regina Pats 7-3 in Western Hockey League action.

Despite all the offence, violence dominated the game. A brawl broke out in the second period involving six skaters and both teams' goalies.

After Edmonton exploded with four goals to put the game out of reach, a couple big hits by Regina's Garrett Mitchell and Myles Bell rubbed the Oil Kings the wrong way.

After the whistle, Mitchell went at it with Klarc Wilson, Bell dropped the mitts with Braeden Laroque and Regina's Trent Ouelette paired up with Oil King Jesse Pearson.

Then goalies Damien Ketlo and Cam Lanigan gave each other the nod and fought at centre ice.

"He's a great guy," Lanigan said after the game, noting he and Ketlo worked and trained together last summer and are friends off the ice.

"It was all just for fun really. I've never been in a fight before. I still don't know what happened. I think I did pretty good my first fight."

But Lanigan said he didn't pull any punches. "I wanted to win."

Ketlo, with his right arm in a sling after the game, was unavailable for comment.

Backup Dawson Guhle finished the game for Regina while Laurent Brossoit stepped in for Edmonton between the pipes.

In the end the Oil Kings out-shot the Pats 43-22, adding two more goals in the third while Regina managed one more.
