Last year's Western Hockey League champions are finally shaking off a slow start to the new season.
Cody Beach scored the winner and added an assist as the Calgary Hitmen beat the Moose Jaw Warriors 6-2 for their first win of the 2010-11 season Saturday night.
Calgary lost their first game of the season to the Lethbridge Hurricanes 5-3 on Sept. 24. The Hitmen also fell prey to the Kootenay Ice 4-0 on Sept. 25.
Moose Jaw hasn't scored a power-play goal yet in 14 opportunities this season.
Calgary goalie Michael Snider made 16 saves to record the victory.
At the other end of the ice, Moose Jaw netminder Thomas Heemskerk made 23 saves before Brandon Stone blocked one of two shots he faced in a relief appearance.
Elsewhere in the WHL it was Prince Albert 3 Brandon 1, Saskatoon 6 Regina 2, Medicine Hat 4 Red Deer 1, Chilliwack 6 Kamloops 1, Vancouver 3 Prince George 1, Seattle 3 Portland 2 (SO), Spokane 6 Tri-City 5 (OT) and Everett 2 Lethbridge 1.
At Calgary, Jimmy Bubnick and Matt MacKenzie also notched a goal and an assist each for the Hitmen (1-2-0), while Tyler Fiddler, Mackenzie Royer and Kris Foucault each scored once.
Antonin Honejsek and Dylan Hood replied for the Warriors (1-3-0).
Raiders 3 Wheat Kings 1
At Prince Albert, Sask., Sebastian Svendsen had back-to-back goals as the Raiders disposed of Brandon.
Brandon Herrod added some insurance with an empty-net goal for Prince Albert (2-3-0) and assisted on both of Svendsen's markers.
Wheaton King was the lone scorer for the Wheat Kings (4-1-0).
Blades 6 Pats 2
At Saskatoon, Marek Viedensky scored and added two assists as the Blades skated to a victory over Regina.
Curtis Hamilton and Braeden Johnson both had a goal and an assist for Saskatoon (3-1-0), while Curt Gogol, Brett Stovin and Matej Stransky added singles.
Jordan Weal and Mikael Jung replied for Regina (1-4-0).
Tigers 4 Rebels 1
At Red Deer, Alta., Deven Dubyk stopped 36 shots to lead Medicine Hat to a win over the Rebels.
Emerson Etem, Vahe Zakaryan and Linden Vey got goals for the Tigers (2-1-0). Sam Dezman scored into an empty net with 1:58 remaining.
Matthew Dumba notched the lone goal for Red Deer (3-2-0).
Bruins 6 Blazers 1
At Chilliwack, B.C., Ryan Howse continued his scoring roll with a pair of tallies to lead the Bruins to a rout over Kamloops.
Roman Horak also scored twice and added a helper for Chilliwack (2-1-0). Brandon Manning and Brendan Persley had the other markers.
Bronson Maschmeyer had the lone goal for the Blazers (1-3-0).
Giants 3 Cougars 1
At Prince George, B.C., Matt MacKay had the eventual winner as Vancouver reeled off three unanswered goals for a victory over the Cougars.
Dalton Sward and Marek Tvrdon contributed to the rally for the Giants(3-3-0).
Nick Buonassisi opened scoring for Prince George (1-3-0).
Thunderbirds 3 Winterhawks 2 (SO)
At Portland, Ore., Marcel Noebels had the only goal of the shootout to earn Seattle a win over the Winterhawks.
Burke Gallimore and Mitch Elliot scored in regulation for the Thunderbirds (3-2-0).
Taylor Peters and Brad Ross tallied for Portland (2-1-1).
Chiefs 6 Americans 5 (OT)
At Spokane, Wash., Blake Gal and Mitch Holmberg both scored twice as the Chiefs edged the Tri-City in overtime.
Levko Koper and Tyler Johnson had a goal and two assists for Spokane (1-2-0).
Adam Hughesman had back-to-back goals for the Americans (4-0-1), while Patrick Holland, Brooks Macek and Kruise Reddick added singles.
Silvertips 2 Hurricanes 1
At Everett, Wash., the Silvertips continued their perfect start to the season, easily handling Lethbridge.
Landon Ferraro and Tyler Maxwell scored for Everett (4-0-0).
Max Ross scored the lone goal for the Hurricanes (2-1-1).
