The Edmonton Oilers made an addition to their blue line on Monday with the team acquiring Connor Murphy from the Chicago Blackhawks, the team announced on Monday.
Chicago will retain 50 per cent of Murphy's $4.4 million cap hit this season and receives a second-round draft pick in the 2028 NHL Draft in return for the defenceman.
Murphy, 32, is in the final season of a four-year, $17.6 million contract will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
The 6-foot-4, right-shot defenceman has four goals and 13 points in 60 games with the Blackhawks this season while averaging 16:34 of ice time.
Drafted 20th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in 2011, Murphy has 47 goals and 173 points in 805 career games split between the Coyotes and Blackhawks.
The Dublin, Ohio native represented the United States five times at the World Championship, taking home bronze medals in 2015 and 2018.
Edmonton sits third in the Pacific Division entering Monday's action with a 29-24-8 record. They are three points behind the Anaheim Ducks and four points behind the Vegas Golden Knights at the top of the division.
The Oilers host the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday in their final game before the NHL Trade Deadline on March 6.
