The Toronto Maple Leafs shuffled multiple defencemen around on Wednesday, as they assigned both Henry Thrun and Dakota Mermis to the AHL's Toronto Marlies and recalled Marshall Rifai.
Rifai, 27, has played two games at the NHL level in his career with the Maple Leafs in 2023-24. In 12 games with the Marlies this year, he has recorded four assists. In 201 career games at the AHL level, Rifai has nine goals and 52 points.
Thrun, 24, has appeared in four games with the Maple Leafs this season. He has not recorded any points, and made his last appearance on December 18 against the Washington Capitals.
Mermis has one goal in 11 games with the Maple Leafs this season, his second in Toronto.
The Maple Leafs are riding a five-game losing streak after losing 7-4 against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. They open a four-game road trip in Seattle against the Kraken on Thursday.
