A pair of intriguing names hit the waiver wire on Wednesday.
New York Rangers goalie Spencer Martin and Calgary Flames forward Justin Kirkland were both waived, according to Elliotte Friedman.
Martin, 30, most recently suited up for CSKA Moscow in the KHL, but was released after a disappointing start to the season.
He then signed to a two-year deal with the Rangers, which was also announced Wednesday, but must first pass through waivers before joining the team.
In 66 career NHL games with the Vancouver Canucks, Columbus Blue Jackets and Carolina Hurricanes, Martin is 24-30-8 with a 3.56 GAA.
Kirkland, 29, spent the last two seasons with the Flames, missing most of last season with an ACL injury. Nicknamed "Costco," it was Kirkland's second stint with the organization, having also signed in 2019-20 before playing three seasons with AHL affiliate Stockton Heat.
In 30 games with the Flames, Kirkland recorded two goals and seven assists. He was held to just one assist in nine games this season.
