Winnipeg Jets head coach Scott Arniel said Friday that captain Adam Lowry is very close to returning to the lineup after off-season hip surgery.
Arniel says Lowry, who was skating in a light blue jersey as an extra, had a great practice today and that he will not be going to the AHL's Manitoba Moose for a conditioning stint.
Lowry underwent hip surgery in May, resumed skating in August and targeted late October/early November as the target for a return to play.
The 32-year-old forward had 16 goals and 18 assists in 73 games last year with the Jets.
He is in the final season of a five-year, $16.25 million contract and will be an unrestricted free agent next summer.
Lowry, a third-round pick by Winnipeg in 2011, was named captain of the Jets ahead of the 2023-24 season. He helped the Jets capture the Presidents' Trophy last season after a 116-point regular season campaign.
The St. Louis native has scored 121 goals with 273 points in 775 career NHL games, all with Winnipeg.
The Jets sit atop the Central Division with 16 points (tied with the Utah Mammoth and Colorado Avalanche) and will take on the Pittsburgh Penguins Saturday afternoon.
