Leevi Merilainen will get another chance to earn starts in net with the Ottawa Senators.
The Finnish goaltender has signed a one-year, $1.05-million contract with the Senators, the team announced Monday.
Merilainen, 22, had a strong 12-game run with the Senators last season, going 8-3-1 with a 1.99 goals-against average and .925 save percentage. He also played 37 games with AHL Belleville.
In 65 career games with Belleville, Meriläinen is 31-21-5 record with a 2.53 GAA and a .912 save percentage.
A restricted free agent before the deal, Merilainen was selected in the third round (71st overall) by the Senators in the 2020 NHL Draft.
The Senators also extended qualifying offers to Xavier Bourgault, Max Guenette, Jan Jenik and Donovan Sebrango on Monday.
