The Vancouver Canucks have locked up another one of their recent acquisitions.
Canucks GM Patrik Allvin announced Tuesday that the team has agreed to terms with forward Drew O'Connor on a two-year, $5 million contract extension.
O'Connor, 26, was acquired in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Feb. 1. The deal also saw the Canucks add defenceman Marcus Pettersson in exchange for Danton Heinen, defenceman Vincent Desharnais, the rights to forward Melvin Fernström and the 2025 conditional first-round pick the Canucks acquired from the Rangers in the J.T. Miller trade.
The Canucks quickly signed Pettersson to a six-year, $33 million contract extension, and now they have also locked up O'Connor. Both players were pending unrestricted free agents before signing the extensions.
O'Connor is in his fifth NHL season. He had six goals and 10 assists through 53 with the Penguins. In four games since joining the Canucks, he has two goals.
