Defenseman Mark Giordano and forward Conor Timmins each will not play against the Ottawa Senators on Saturday (7 p.m. ET; CBC, TVAS, SNE, SNO, SNP).
Giordano sustained a lower-body injury in a 5-4 win against the Dallas Stars on Wednesday. Timmins will miss his fourth straight game due to an illness.
"Maybe a little bit longer than day to day, but nothing too serious," Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said of Giordano. "And then it's just an illness for Timmins. It's hit him pretty hard. In terms of the time period, we don't know."
Defenseman William Lagesson will return to the lineup against the after being a healthy scratch for 17 games.
"It's been a little bit of a grind, staying ready all the time and keeping patient," Lagesson said. "But finally I'm back in, so I'm super excited about it. I'm just trying to be a good teammate, bring the energy at practice and all that. ... That's all I could've done. That's what I did. But it feels really good to be back in the lineup and go out there in games and fight for wins."
Lagesson, who will play with Timothy Liljegren on the third pair, has three assists and is plus-1 in 21 games this season. He last played on Dec. 27, a 4-2 loss to the Senators.
"Just do the job he did when he came in previously," Keefe said of his advice for Lagesson. "Obviously, when you haven't played for a while, you need to simplify things even more, but he plays a pretty simple game as it is."
