Winnipeg Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers, who has been sidelined since April 11 with an upper-body injury, skated on the second line at practice on Wednesday as he works towards returning to the lineup.
The 27-year-old is still waiting to be medically cleared to return to game action. Ehlers, who engaged in more contact during the practice, will be reevaluated after Thursday's skate in hopes he can be medically cleared.
Game 5 goes Thursday night in Las Vegas.
"I feel good. I don't think I was good enough to play the first few games. I know I said I was [on April 15], but I hadn't really been on the ice yet — and looking back now — that wouldn't have ended well," Ehlers told the media on Wednesday.
Ehlers was also featured on the first power-play unit at Wednesday's practice.
The Aalborg, Denmark, native appeared in just 45 games this season due to multiple injuries. He played in the first two games of the year before being placed on injured reserve with an undisclosed injury, which ultimately required sports hernia surgery.
Ehlers had 12 goals and 26 assists in 31 games during the regular season.
The Jets trail the Vegas Golden Knights 3-1 in their first-round series as they prepare for Game 5 on Thursday.
Winnipeg will be without star defenceman Josh Morrissey for the remainder of the series after he suffered a lower-body injury in Game 3.
Forward Mark Scheifele has also been ruled out for Game 5 due to an upper-body injury suffered in Monday's 4-2 loss.
