CHICOUTIMI, Que. — The Quebec Remparts looked home free after grabbing a 4-2 lead midway through the third period, but the Chicoutimi Sagueneens thrilled their home crowd with a late comeback and 5-4 shootout victory in the only Quebec Major Junior Hockey League game on Tuesday's schedule.
Trailing 4-2 with under six minutes left in the third period, Felix Bedard scored an unassisted goal for the Sagueneens to make it 4-3 and Andrei Loshko scored at 17:38 to tie the game.
There was no scoring in the five-minute overtime and Loshko was the only one to score in the three-round shootout.
The Remparts, who have five wins, a loss and now a shootout loss, lead the QMJHL's Eastern Conference and the East Division thanks to their hot start. Mikael Huchette, Nathan Gaucher, James Malatesta and Charles Savoie scored for Quebec, who opened their regular season on Sept. 23 with a 1-0 win over the visiting Sagueneens.
Thomas Begin and Jacob Newcombe also scored for the resilient Sagueneens, who are 2-5-0-0 and near the bottom of the East Division.
Quebec outshot Chicoutimi 36-35.
