Kevin Lowe is retiring from his role of Vice Chair and Alternate Governor of the Edmonton Oilers after 40-plus years with the organization.

Lowe will transition into in a new role as an Oilers ambassador.

The 63-year-old was Edmonton's first ever draft pick in 1979 and would go on to play 19 seasons in the NHL — 15 with the Oilers and four with the Rangers — registering 84 goals and 347 assists in 1,254 regular-season games. He won the Stanley Cup five times with Edmonton (1984, 1985, 1987, 1988 and 1990) and once with New York (1994).

Lowe had his No. 4 jersey retired by the Oilers in 2021, was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in the Class of 2020 and named to the Order of Hockey in Canada in 2021.

After his playing career, Lowe held a number of roles with the Oilers including head coach, general manager, Vice Chair and Alternate Governor, and member of the EOCF Board of Directors.

"Kevin Lowe has been an integral part of the Edmonton Oilers for over 40 years and will continued to be connected to the organization as Oilers Ambassador," said Oilers Chairman Bob Nicholson. "Very few have had the impact that Kevin has had, both on and off the ice. He exemplifies leadership and has done so much to help connect the organization with our fans, while supporting so many worthwhile causes in our community. He is a teammate, leader and friend to so many in the organization and we congratulate him on an amazing career and are excited for this next chapter of his career."
