Pickard will act as Edmonton's third string to Jack Campbell and Stuart Skinner.
Pickard split the 2021-22 season between the Red Wings and AHL affiliate Grand Rapids Griffons. In three games for the Wings, the 30-year-old held a 1-1-0 record with a .875 save percentage and a 4.30 goals against average.
With the Griffons, Pickard kept a .918 save percentage and a 2.58 goals against average with a 21-16-6 record.
