{allcanada} Islanders' Varlamov to remain in Canada at least 6 days after COVID test result

Following a positive COVID-19 result over the weekend, New York Islanders goalie Semyon Varlamov is due for an unintentionally extended stay in Canada.

Islanders coach Barry Trotz told reporters on Tuesday that Varlamov will have to stay north of the border for at least six days after entering COVID-19 protocol on Saturday in Calgary.

Varlamov was the Islanders' projected starter ahead of Saturday's tilt against the Flames, but his placement in COVID-19 protocol before puck drop forced New York to lean on Ilya Sorokin instead.

In 15 games (13 starts) this season, Varlamov is 3-9-1 with a 2.57 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

On Monday, veteran netminder Cory Schneider was recalled from AHL Bridgeport to take Varlamov's place on the active roster. The Islanders return to action on Tuesday night, facing the Buffalo Sabres to cap a four-game road swing.
