John Tavares is not playing at the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday (7:30 p.m. ET; NHLN, TVAS, SN, NBCSP, NHL LIVE).
The center sustained an undisclosed injury in a 5-1 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on Monday but took part in an optional skate Wednesday.
Forward Ondrej Kase also sustained an undisclosed injury against the Kings but is playing.
"Both guys are on the ice here still, they are preparing to play," Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said after the optional skate. "Obviously, that's positive from where they were at yesterday, but they are going to be game-time decisions so we won't really know until after warmups."
Forwards Joey Anderson and Kirill Semyonov were recalled from Toronto of the American Hockey League and practiced Tuesday. Semyonov is making his NHL debut against the Flyers.
Defenseman Justin Holl is playing after being scratched the past five games.
