Matt Murray is going on injured reserve Sunday.
The goalie was injured Saturday trying to prevent New York Rangers forward Chris Kreider's goal at 14:37 of the third period when Kreider's knee clipped his head on the play.
"I think it's more his neck," Senators coach D.J. Smith said. "He was unable to continue."
Anton Forsberg allowed two goals on three shots in relief. The Senators lost 3-2 after leading 2-0.
Goalie Filip Gustavsson was recalled from Belleville of the American Hockey League. The Senators host the Washington Capitals on Monday (7 p.m. ET; SN1, RDS, NBCSWA+, ESPN+, NHL LIVE).
Smith confirmed that Shane Pinto (upper body) is out at least one week. The forward left in the first period of a 2-1 loss to the San Jose Sharks on Thursday after a hit from defenseman Brent Burns. He returned in the second period before leaving after one shift.
"We don't have a timeline," Smith said. "We think it's a little better than originally thought. He's at this point probably at least a week or two. We'll see as we go."
Forward Parker Kelly, who replaced Pinto on Saturday, was reassigned to Belleville.
