{allcanada} OHL approves sale of Guelph Storm to Feldberg, Bly

GUELPH, Ont. — The sale of the Guelph Storm to Toronto businessmen Joel Feldberg and Jeffrey Bly has been approved by the Ontario Hockey League.

The transfer of ownership from Rick Gaetz, Scott Walker, Rick Hoyle and John Heeley is effective immediately, the OHL said Friday in a statement.

"This was an extremely difficult decision," Gaetz said in the statement. "I can speak for the entire ownership group when I say that we will miss the Storm very much.

"We are proud of what we have all achieved on the ice and in the great community of Guelph. It has been a sincere privilege to be a part of this great league and tremendous city."

The Storm franchise started out as the Toronto Marlboros before two years as the Dukes of Hamilton and its arrival in Guelph in 1991.

Two of the Storm's four OHL titles were earned under Gaetz and company in 2014 and 2019.

Incoming owners Feldberg and Bly are president and senior vice-president, respectively, of the Global Furniture Group of companies.

"We are eager to get involved with the team, the league and the community of Guelph," Feldberg said.

"I want to thank the current ownership group for this opportunity. The Storm have always been an integral part of the community and we look forward to carrying out that legacy."

The Storm face the host Mississauga Steelheads on Sunday in a pre-season game. Guelph starts the regular season Oct. 8 in Kitchener before its home opener Oct. 9 against the Rangers.
