The Vancouver Canucks are sending Jay Beagle, Loui Eriksson, Antoine Roussel, the ninth-overall pick in the 2021 NHL Draft, a second-rounder next year and a seventh-round pick to the Arizona Coyotes for defenceman Oliver Ekman-Larsson and forward Conor Garland, the team confirmed Friday.
The Coyotes will retain 12 per cent of Ekman-Larsson's salary. The 30-year-old has six years remaining on a eight-year deal with a $8.25-million cap hit.
Ekman-Larsson has spent the past 11 years with the Coyotes, serving as the club's captain for the past three. The Karlskrona, Sweden native has finished near or above the 40-point plateau from the back end six times over the course of his career, his best year being a 55-point effort back in 2015-16.
In 2020-21, Ekman-Larsson posted 24 points through 46 games, and averaged 20:58 minutes of ice per night.
Garland, 25, has amassed 47 goals through his first three NHL seasons, and posted 39 points through 49 games last season. The undersized right winger is slated to become a restricted free agent and is due for a raise after breaking out in 2020-21.
In parting with depth forwards Beagle, Eriksson and Roussel, the Canucks shed $12 million in salary for next season and open up cap space for Ekman-Larsson and Garland.
