{allcanada} Galchenyuk traded to Maple Leafs by Hurricanes

Alex Galchenyuk was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday.

The Hurricanes received forward Egor Korshkov and defenseman David Warsofsky.

Galchenyuk was traded to the Hurricanes by the Ottawa Senators on Saturday but never played a game for them. The 27-year-old forward has played for four teams in three seasons (Arizona Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins, Minnesota Wild, Ottawa).

Galchenyuk was acquired along with forward Cedric Paquette by Carolina for forward Ryan Dzingel. The Hurricanes placed Galchenyuk on waivers Sunday, and he remained in Ottawa waiting to see if he was claimed by another team.

The No. 3 pick in the 2012 NHL Draft by the Montreal Canadiens, Galchenyuk scored one goal in eight games for the Senators after signing with them as a free agent Oct. 28, 2020. He has scored 321 points (136 goals, 185 assists) in 557 NHL games, including a career-high 56 (30 goals, 26 assists) in 2015-16 for Montreal.

Korshkov has played one NHL game. The 24-year-old was playing for the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League.

Warsofsky has scored 11 points (two goals, nine assists) in 55 NHL games with the Boston Bruins, Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey Devils and Colorado Avalanche. The 30-year-old has been assigned to the Chicago Wolves of the AHL.
