Alex Galchenyuk could practice with the Maple Leafs on Thursday.
The forward was acquired in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday, two days after he was traded there by the Ottawa Senators with forward Cedric Paquette for forward Ryan Dzingel.
Because he never left Canada following the trade to Carolina, Galchenyuk, who has scored one goal in eight games this season, is not subject to quarantine.
"With his skill set and what he's accomplished in the League, we see great potential there for him," Maple Leafs coach Sheldon Keefe said. "We'll integrate him and put him in the mix of guys competing for spots every night."
The Maple Leafs host the Senators on Wednesday (7 p.m. ET; SN, TVAS, NHL.TV) and Thursday.
