{allcanada} Players have fun debating quarantine with teammates in video conference

Logan Couture is comfortable at his home in San Jose with his girlfriend while the NHL season is on pause because of concerns about the coronavirus. The forward is very happy he's not stuck with San Jose Sharks teammate Joe Thornton.

When asked which player he'd most and least want to be stuck with in quarantine, Couture wasted no time giving his first answer.

"The least one is easy: Jumbo [Thornton]," the Sharks captain said Friday during one of two video conferences with Pacific Division players organized by the NHL. "I don't know how he's surviving right now. The guy's got [attention deficit disorder] for sure. If he can't go to the rink, he's lost."

Anaheim Ducks captain Ryan Getzlaf, who has played against Thornton and with him at international tournaments, chimed in, saying, "That's 100 percent true."

Couture continued: "I don't know what he's doing. I've texted him a couple times throughout this just to check on him, see how he's doing."

Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar said the teammate he'd most like to be quarantined with and the one he'd least like to be with was the same person: defenseman Drew Doughty.

"Being around the guy every day, there's literally something new every second, a comment," Kopitar said. "Whether you're crying, laughing or shaking your head, thinking how did that just came out of his mouth, it's pretty self-explanatory for me."

Getzlaf chimed in, "It's an emotional roller coaster."

Getzlaf picked defenseman Hampus Lindholm as the player he'd least want to be isolated with "because I don't really know how to communicate in Swedish."

The one he'd want to be quarantined with is 22-year-old forward Troy Terry, who is 12 years younger.

"He is a very entertaining young man that can keep me on my toes and laughing," Getzlaf said.

Arizona Coyotes captain Oliver Ekman-Larsson picked a fellow countryman and defenseman to be stuck with, Niklas Hjalmarsson.

"He's a good guy, and we can watch some Swedish TV shows," Ekman-Larsson said.

For the teammate he'd least want to be stuck with?

"I've got to go with [Clayton] Keller, because he can't cook, he doesn't talk, he's only playing Fortnite, and I'm not really into that," Ekman-Larsson said.

Vancouver Canucks captain Bo Horvat said forward Brandon Sutter would be the player he'd like to be quarantined with because they share similar interests. The least? Forward Jake Virtanen.

"I always just like getting under his skin and chirping him," Horvat said.

Couture opted for a former teammate as the player he'd most want to be stuck with, selecting forward Barclay Goodrow, who was traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Feb. 24.

"I think he and I have the most in common," Couture said. "I still count him as being a Shark, he's only been in Tampa for a little bit, so he'd be my guy."

Calgary Flames captain Mark Giordano said Sean Monahan, an offseason workout partner, would be the player he'd most want to be quarantined with. As for the one he'd like to avoid, it would be goalie David Rittich.

"He crushes a lot of Pepsi and pop and stuff like that so I'd have to load up on that stuff," Giordano said. "And half the time he's yelling at me on the ice and trying to try to say things to me that I have no idea what he's saying."

Edmonton Oilers captain Connor McDavid picked a former roommate to be quarantined with, defenseman Darnell Nurse.

"He's a guy I'm real comfortable with and know the ins and outs of his life, and he knows the same about mine," McDavid said.

McDavid said forward Zack Kassian was too energetic to be stuck in quarantine with.

"He's just got too much energy, he's go, go, go constantly, so that's not what you're looking for when you're trapped in a house all day," McDavid said. "Obviously, I love Kas, but there's too much energy for a two-week quarantine."

Vegas Golden Knights goalie Marc-Andre Fleury picked defenseman Nate Schmidt to be stuck with.

"He's got so much energy, I feel he could get the kids tired all day and I could relax a bit because he's going to burn so much energy," Fleury said.

Fleury wouldn't pick the player he'd least like to be quarantined with. Getzlaf called Fleury Switzerland, a reference to the country's neutrality, but Kopitar said it might have been the smart answer for a goalie.

"Don't want to get hit in the head in practice," he said.
