{allcanada} NHL Oilers lose McDavid for 2-3 weeks with quad injury

New York (AFP) - Edmonton Oilers star center Connor McDavid will miss the next two or three weeks of the National Hockey League season with a quadriceps injury, general manager Ken Holland announced Tuesday.

"That's a normal timeline for this injury," said Holland. "We're hoping less... It's not long term."

Oilers captain McDavid has scored 30 goals and set up 51 others in 55 games this season for the Oilers, ranking second in NHL total scoring behind teammate Leon Draisaitl.

The 23-year-old Canadian, the top pick of the 2015 NHL Draft, was hurt Saturday in a 3-2 victory over Nashville after being checked into the boards by Predators defenseman Dante Fabbo.

His absence, potentially into March, is a major loss for the Oilers, who have 29 wins and 64 points in 55 games to rank second in the Pacific Division, three points behind the division-leading Vancouver Canucks.

McDavid was the 2017 Hart Trophy winner as the NHL Most Valuable Player and he has been an NHL All-Star for four consecutive seasons. He helped Canada capture the 2016 World Championships crown.
