{allcanada} Campbell, Clifford traded to Maple Leafs by Kings

Jack Campbell and Kyle Clifford were traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Los Angeles Kings on Wednesday for Trevor Moore, a third-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft and a third-round pick in the 2021 NHL Draft.

Campbell, a 28-year-old goalie, is 8-10-2 with a 2.85 goals-against average and .900 save percentage for Los Angeles this season. Toronto goalie Frederik Andersen has a neck injury, and backup Michael Hutchinson is 4-9-1 after a 5-3 loss to the New York Rangers on Wednesday.

Before the trade was announced after the game, Toronto coach Sheldon Keefe was asked if Hutchinson would start against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday. The Maple Leafs also play at the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.

"It's too early to tell," Keefe said. "There's a lot going on obviously with Fred and some other things too. We're just going to have to see how things settle down tomorrow and see where we're at."

Hutchinson is 1-4-0 after winning three starts in a row from Dec. 21-Jan. 4. Andersen is 24-9-6 with a 2.87 GAA and .910 save percentage in 42 starts. He was injured in the first period of a 5-3 loss at the Florida Panthers on Monday, a game Hutchinson lost after Toronto led 3-1 in the third period. Kasimir Kaskisuo, a 26-year-old who has played one NHL game, was Hutchinson's backup Wednesday.

"I have no update on Freddie at this point," Keefe said. "In terms of [Hutchinson], I thought that we need saves as a team. We need him to be better in those spots when we have those lapses there. At the same time, our team has to do a better job of protecting."

Campbell is 20-25-5 with a 2.58 GAA and .916 save percentage in 57 games (49 starts) with the Kings and one start with the Dallas Stars, who selected him with the No. 11 pick in the 2010 NHL Draft.

Clifford, a 29-year-old forward, has 14 points (six goals, eight assists) and 45 penalty minutes in 53 games this season, and 129 points (60 goals, 69 assists) and 819 penalty minutes in 660 games with the Kings. He won the Stanley Cup in 2012 and 2014 with Los Angeles.

Moore, a 24-year-old forward, has five points (three goals, two assists) in 23 games with the Maple Leafs this season. He had eight points (two goals, six assists) in 25 games as a rookie last season.

Los Angeles receives the Columbus Blue Jackets' third round pick in 2020, which Toronto acquired from the Ottawa Senators, and a conditional third-round pick in 2021. The Kings will retain 50 percent of Clifford's salary.
