{allcanada} Gallagher out indefinitely for Canadiens with concussion

Brendan Gallagher is out indefinitely for the Montreal Canadiens because of a concussion.

The forward was injured during the second period of a 3-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Tuesday when he fell backward after he was checked by Hurricanes forward Jordan Staal and struck in the head by Canadiens defenseman Ben Chiarot's knee.

The injury ends Gallagher's consecutive games streak at 229 games. He's second on the Canadiens with 32 points (15 goals, 17 assists) in 40 games.

"He suffered a concussion, which means we don't know how long he'll be out," Canadiens coach Claude Julien said before the Canadiens play the Tampa Bay Lightning at Bell Centre on Thursday (7 p.m. ET; TSN2, RDS, SUN, NHL.TV). "It'll depend on his recovery. But it's another big loss. We haven't been lucky lately with the injuries and we have to find a way to overtime this and try and win games."

Canadiens forwards Jonathan Drouin (wrist) and Paul Byron (upper body) have each missed 21 games since Nov. 15. Forward Joel Armia (hand) has missed three.
