{allcanada} Senators cut three players, Brannstrom appears to crack roster

Top prospect Erik Brannstrom appears to have landed a spot on Ottawa's opening night roster as the Senators announced roster cuts Sunday ahead of the regular season.

The 20-year-old defenceman is among the 24 players remaining at Senators training camp with their season beginning Wednesday against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Ottawa cut forward Vitaly Abramov and Logan Brown along with defenceman Christian Jaros and assigned them to its American Hockey League affiliate in Belleville, Ont.

Brannstrom, drafted 15th overall in the 2017 NHL Draft by the Vegas Golden Knights, was a key returning piece for the Senators when they dealt sniper Mark Stone to Vegas in February.

The five-foot-10, 181-pound blueliner played two games with the Senators last season and was held pointless.

He mostly split time between the AHL's Chicago Wolves and Belleville.
