{allcanada} Oilers’ Jesse Puljujarvi to undergo season-ending hip surgery

Jesse Puljujarvi's disastrous 2018-19 campaign has reached a disappointing conclusion, as the Edmonton Oilers winger is set to undergo season-ending hip surgery.

The team made an official announcement Thursday afternoon following an initial report from Jason Gregor of Oilers Nation.

Puljujarvi, who went for a second opinion Tuesday, hasn't played since Feb. 15 and was placed on injured reserve with a lower-body injury last week.

"This injury has been bothering Jesse for some time now and after careful consideration with Jesse, his agent and our medical staff, the best decision was to have the surgery and miss the remainder of the season," Oilers assistant general manager Keith Gretzky said in a statement. "We expect Jesse to rehabilitate and train throughout the summer and be 100 per cent ready to go for training camp in September."

The fourth-overall pick from 2016 had registered a mere four goals and five assists in 46 appearances with the Oilers this season while averaging 11:57 of ice-time per game. The 20-year-old also had two goals and two assists in four games with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors.
